P4 - Picking a Colour Scheme for a Website

Click on the Colour Scheme Designer to find suitable colours for your website.

In today's Lesson:

  • Know what a website house style is and
  • Be able to design a house style for a website.

Tasks:

  1. Log into Robert Clack Apps.
  2. Make a copy of P4 - House Styles (File>Make a copy)
  3. Use this website Colour Scheme Designer to help choose your colours.
  4. Add them to the table, including the RGB number that looks like (#FF0099) 
  5. Explain your choices.
  6. Create a structure for your website.
  7. Design three logos for your website. You may use Graffiti Creator for one of them and Logo Designer for another.  The last one can be made using shapes or photoshop.

Homework:

Complete the worksheet for homework. Make sure you have shared it with me (Miss C Philbin).

In today's Lesson:

  • Know how what WWW stands for.
  • Understand What Web 2.0 technologies are.
  • Be able to describe with examples Blogs, Online applications and Web 2.0 Technologies.

Tasks:

  1. Log into Robert Clack Apps.
  2. Open   P2 document.
  3. Add a subtitle for World Wide Web (WWW)
    1. Who invented the World Wide Web?
    2. What type of program do we use to look at webpages on the world wide web?
    3. What do we type into the address bar to get to a website?
  4. Add a subtitle for Web 2.0 technologies
    1. Describe what Web 2.0 technologies means.
    2. Give examples of web 2.0 elements that can be found on a website.
  5. Add a subtitle for Blogs
    1. Describe what a Blog website is
    2. Give examples of a blog website.
  6. Add a subtitle for Online Applications
    1. Describe online applications (what can you do?)
    2. Give examples of online applications that you have used.

P2 - Web Architecture

In today's Lesson:

  • Know what a Domain Name is. 
  • Understand how a Domain Name is Structured 
  • Be able to describe with examples Domain Names, how they are structured and how to register one.

Tasks:

  1. Think of a unique name and web address for a website.
  2. In Google Chrome, go to www.123-reg.co.uk see if the name is available by searching for it.
    1. How can you tell if it is taken?
    2. Does it cost money to buy?
  3. Log into Robert Clack Apps.
  4. Create a new document and name it P2 - Web Architecture
    1. Describe using examples what a Domain Name is.
    2. Explain the domain name structure, by breaking it down into four parts.
    3. Explain how a company, organisation or individual would go about registering a domain name.
    4. Share the document with me when you are finished.

Welcome to ICT with Miss Philbin


We are studying for a qualification in ICT. It is a BTEC First in ICT and is equivalent to GCSE. There will be no exam on this course. Instead you will be expected to complete coursework.

We will be studying the following units:

  • Unit 17 Website Development
  • Unit 1 Communicating in the IT Industry
  • Unit 2 Working in the IT Industry
  • Unit 3 Computer Systems


Each unit has a number of 'Pass' criteria and we label them P1, P2. P3 and so on. You need to pass every criteria to achieve a Pass overall equivalent to C's at GCSE level.

In our first lesson we started P1 - identify the hardware and software components which enable internet and web functionality

In today's lesson:

We are going to explain the purpose of five different types of websites using examples. (P3)

Tasks:

  1. First you will need to open Google Chrome.
  2. Next click here to log into Robert Clack Apps (use your school username and the password I will give you in class)
  3. Click on the Red Create Button and select Presentation.
  4. The title of your presentation is 'P3 - The Purpose of Websites'
  5. On a new slide find an example of a website that sells products and explain your example. How do visitors use the website? Why do companies have websites instead of or as well as shops?
  6. You will need slides and examples for the following:
    1. Websites that advertise
    2. Websites that inform
    3. Websites that train
    4. Websites for internal communication.
  7. This resource will help you.
  8. When you have finished click the blue Share button and add 'miss c philbin' to the people who can see your work. This video explains how to do it.
